Music therapy is the use of music using clinical evidence based practice to reach therapeutic goals, as directed by a Board Certified Music Therapist. Climbing The Ladder has partnered with Prospect Music Therapy to provide music therapy groups or individual sessions at our clinic. Music therapists are experts at understanding how music affects the brain and body and using that understanding to help clients experience change.
At Climbing the Ladder, music therapy focuses on increasing emotional and sensory regulation and promoting positive social interaction. Each week small groups of 2-4 enjoy music-based experiences together designed to support each participant in progressing in their personal goal areas. These musical experiences may include movement to music, singing/ vocalizing, instrument play, song writing, or music listening.
This group meets every other week to enjoy social experiences together to enhance motor skills, independent living skills, leisure skills, and socialization.
Groups take place at the clinic where fun is had together through games, exercise, and crafts.
Friends' Group also ventures out to enjoy various leisure activities together in a variety of settings as well as participate in community volunteer work.
This group is facilitated by an occupational therapist and a Floor Time Practitioner. Participants have developed lasting friendships over the years.
